Jane was delighted to be able to visit heron Dale Primary school in Shoreham-By-Sea this week.
The purpose of the visit was to present the staff and students with a custom made Nicosy, a wearable wrap for wheelchair users, to be placed in the beach wheelchair they are currently raising funds for. This will allow the students using the chair to remain comfortable and warm whilst enjoying the beach.
Staff at Heron Dale support children with a vast range of special needs and as part of their care, ensure each pupil is able to enjoy their outdoor spaces which stimulates their senses and encourages positive development.
Jane was blown away by how the staff approach the children and their education. This school is truly unique in its care.
“I noticed how important the outdoor spaces were to the children, we even presented the Nicosy in their garden which has a new water feature. Being able to provide the children with a Nicosy will ensure they are snug and comfortable whilst enjoying the beach, and the other outdoor spaces to which they have access. After the coastguard left, I was lucky enough to be escorted around the school and enjoy the children’s work. This really is a special, nurturing place for children, and I am so pleased to be able to help – even in a small way. The demands on the school to maintain and expand their facilities is phenomenal. I am really looking forward to coming back in the new school year, when the beach wheelchair arrives to make sure it’s a perfect fit”.
